History

The bernese Oberland founder group “Bernensis Hotel AG” purchased the Hotel Villa Europe
back in 2001.

With a lot of passion, a good corporate strategy, helping shareholders and a convinced hotelier, the hotel was put back on the road to success.
 

A few years later the “Bernensis Hotel AG” had the chance of buying the next-door hotel “Carlton”. After the purchase, a connecting hallway was built to bring both hotels together into one. The hotel was now called “the Carlton-Europe hotel”.
 

The new dining room “Hansen-Ritschard Saal” was named after the builders of the two hotels, Christian Hansen and Karl Alfred Ritschard. In 2014 a connecting room to the “Hansen-Ritschard saal” was built and named “Salon Elisabeth”.
 

In Spring 2015 the basement with new apartments was finished and followed by the first floor with more flats in 2016.
 

Besides the renovations and new buildings, the Carlton-Europe Hotel gained the status of a 3*** Superior house in 2015.
 

In 2019 we adapted our concept slightly and are one of the first adult hotels in Switzerland. As a further step, we have also focused our dog hotel on the needs of our four-legged guests. Since 2021, we have achieved the 4 star classification for all rooms and can also call ourselves a bike hotel and are proud of our membership with Switzerland Tourism as a “seminar hotel with inspiration”.
